The source of this data is the National Council of State Legislatures here.
The laws are nuanced so I broke it down into 3 simple categories and 3 simple ratings.
Processing - generally speaking refers to signature verification on a mail ballot.
Tallying Votes - generally speaking is exactly what is says, election machines counting your votes.
Reporting Results - generally speaking is the public reporting of machine counted results.
Here is the summary for all 50 states
When Processing a ballot and verifying your signature, they know exactly who you are, what your Party is and what your voting history is. How else can they verify your signature? Therefore how you vote can be easily predicted. Make no mistake about it, Processing is in reality an early “Reporting of Results” to those who have access to the information.
Only Maryland waits to process the mail in ballots until after polls close on election day.
38 states permit or do not exclude tallying votes before the polls close on election day. This occurs either before Election Day or on Election Day
16 states permit or do not exclude reporting results before polls close on election day.
The most outrageous part about this chart is that the results are known to a handful of people in 38 states, not the general public, before the polls are closed.
Do you see how much information We The People are giving away to those who want to control the outcome? This is a lack of voting privacy, fundamentally.
By mailing in your ballot, you are giving away results to the cheaters who have an opportunity to cheat more.
Now imagine a different world in which this entire chart above looked like this.
What a concept.
I appreciate your insight. I have a favor to ask will you go checkout and see what Unite4Freedom.com is doing, Harry Haury Chairman and one of the authors of the HAVA act .
So it looks like Maryland is the only state doing it the way you suggest. Notice any difference there? Less drama at election time?
